Rousey to fight former boxer

Miesha Tate may have a lot of questions about why it’s Holly Holm who’s getting the next crack at Ronda Rousey instead of her, but Holm isn’t anxious about it.

Rousey announced the matchup on ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Friday.

Understandably frustrated, Tate and her manager both spoke out on the issues, saying the announcement caught them off-guard as the UFC hadn’t informed them of the change. “The Preacher’s Daughter” has won two decision in the UFC and hasn’t looked spectacular or lived up to the hype from her boxing days. Rousey is counting on Holm’s vaunted striking abilities to be a draw for the bout – although Rousey’s utter dominance has been its own selling point lately. Rousey is the only women’s bantamweight champion in UFC history, and the former Olympic judoka has parlayed her electrifying MMA success into global fame and an acting career. “She’s not the average chick that I would fight”, Rousey told ABC. “I know one day I’m gonna have the opportunity. No one is easy until after you beat them”. In fact, the only time the champ has not finished a fight in the first round was when she submitted Miesha Tate in the third round at UFC 168. It’s likely that the two could be an interesting booking if Tate doesn’t get paired with Amanda Nunes, which has been heavily rumoured since yesterday.

Rousey also has been challenged by Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino, the Brazilian veteran widely considered the world’s best female fighter after Rousey.

On Friday morning, it was revealed the UFC was looking to add the UFC women’s strawweight title fight rematch between reigning champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Claudia Gadelha to UFC 195 in January. Gadelha has only fought once since, but she scored a lopsided win over former WSOF champion Jessica Aguilar. Because she’s worked her tail off to get where she’s at.
