Visitation will continue leading up to the funeral service at 11:00 a.m.
Jackson and his fellow lawmen were gunned down after a week of protests surrounding the Baton Rouge police shooting of Alton Sterling, one of two police killings of black men to spark national demonstrations.
A member of Baton Rouge police Cpl. Police arrested three suspects and were seeking a possible fourth suspect accused of stealing several handguns as part of what authorities Tuesday described as “substantial, credible threat” to harm police officers in the Baton Rouge area.
Jackson was called a true hero a loving husband and father, so proud of his new baby just four months old. On Sunday, Edwards attended mass at St. Joseph Cathedral with elected officials and law enforcement officers, including Mayor Kip Holden, Baton Rouge Police Chief Carl Dabadie and District Attorney Hillar Moore III.
Gov. John Bel Edwards cited Jackson’s Facebook message as showing a man who loved his community and cared deeply about protecting it.
Close friend Gelrod Armstrong described Jackson as respectful and someone who “lived his life as best as you could”.
Just three days before his death, Jackson married with a four-month-old son named Mason wrote a Facebook post detailing how hard it was for him to be both a black man and a police officer, describing himself as “tired physically and emotionally”. Jackson’s funeral is on Monday.
Dabadie said that Jackson’s love of police work, and the calling he felt to serve the public, was something that the department would always remember. Police say they don’t know if Long was responding to that death, but they say he deliberately targeted officers. Gerald was buried Friday and Garafola on Saturday.
