Roy Hodgson: Five England players withdraw from squad for Lithuania

Raheem Sterling netted the second goal five minutes from time as England’s total domination finally paid off at Wembley.

Manager Roy Hodgson is hoping Ings will recover in time to instead play Lithuania on Monday, while he is also confident that Michael Carrick and Jonjo Shelvey will be passed fit for the Estonia game at Wembley on Friday.

And he was also pleased with the performance of Man of the Match Ross Barkley, saying the Everton midfielder “has been maturing in his performances for Everton and for England”. In the first half we had to be patient but we got our goal and thankfully we kept the run going.

Seeing as the Three Lions have already secured qualification, we are expecting more of an experimental team to take to the field for the final home qualifier.

England is the only team with a 100 percent record in qualifying for next year’s finals and should be with the top-seeded teams in the draw for the group stage in France.

England’s record goalscorer Wayne Rooney is set to miss the Euro 2016 qualifier against Estonia on Friday through injury, per the Express.

“You want to represent your country and I know everyone would like to see me up front, but whether it’s on the left or right… there’s an opportunity there definitely”.

“Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick are injured”.

Despite the injury, Rooney has remained with the squad this week, and the FA said the skipper will be present at Friday’s game in north London. “We’re all completely different players so they are great options for a manager to have”. That’s coaching to make sure a player with incredible ability chooses his moments.

Just past the half-hour mark a rare Estonia attack ended with Taijo Teniste having a shot blocked before Chris Smalling was forced to clear the ball away for a corner. He wanted me to be more aggressive in terms of running at players, closing them down, tracking back, being there and in their faces. I don’t think we can use the excuse of burn-out.

“I’ve had quite a few words with him behind the scenes”.

“I don’t want to add my voice on the subject because that is not my realm of the FA”.
