Roy Keane delivers epic one-liner on new dad Robbie Keane’s playing chances

Republic of Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane emphatically dismissed suggestions that Robbie Keane could miss the crucial Euro 2016 qualifier against Germany after becoming a new father.

Captain Robbie Keane has delayed his arrival in Irish camp after the birth of his second child, but his temporary absence is of no concern to Keane who claimed that “as long as he’s not breastfeeding he should be alright”.

Roy Keane has never been the most patient of interviewees over the years, but today’s one-liner will go down as one of the great Keane retorts.

“I think we’re a stronger team now as with any campaign – we were settling in at the start, we were new to the job”.

So there we have it – it appears that only the magical miracle of a male pregnancy can excuse a player from the big match. “We’re disappointed with the lads who are carrying knocks and the suspensions but that’s part of the course but it won’t keep me awake tonight”.

Robert was only thrilled to learn he was going to have sibling in his life with Claudine and Robbie announced the news to him last July.

O’Neill had earlier launched a stern defence of his handling of the situation, insisting he had not prostituted himself in a bid to land the youngster, and asked if everything had been done that could be done, Keane said: “Yes, absolutely”. “But I think we are as well”.
