Royal Rumble results and thoughts

Wrestlers started hitting their finishers and eliminating others out of nowhere until only Reigns, Triple H, Sheamus and Dean Ambrose remained.

Now the critics are voicing their disapproval over the 46-year-old Triple H (pictured above) winning the Rumble match and becoming WWE World Heavyweight Champion for the 14th time. Brock Lesnar came in and eliminated nearly everyone at once, including the entire Wyatt family, who continue to lose their fear factor.

Reigns entered the match first, but was laid out by the League of Nations midway through the match.

The Royal Rumble Match is always full of surprise entrants, and no participant in last night’s over-the-top-rope melee was more surprising than the world-renowned AJ Styles.

There will be many twists and turns along the way no doubt, but the Road to WrestleMania has officially begun. “History was to made!” – although this wasn’t actually the first time the title was on the line at the Royal Rumble. For someone who held the title for the time period leading up to the Rumble and for someone who will inevitably challenge for the title Reigns looked unbearably weak. Both men were put through multiple tables, and the match ended when Ambrose pushed Owens off the top rope and onto two tables that were stacked up outside of the ring. Hence, this was a sweet revenge for Triple H over Reigns.

The Rumble itself was objectively the best one in years, with a whole host of stories told, rivalries teased and of course the arrival in WWE of AJ Styles.

The present story could take a similar mold and if it does, it will prove beneficial for Reigns’ career.

It is always a treat to see former WWE legends make an appearance at the annual event, however, no legends were in sight on Sunday. He’s been mostly off television for months and the crowd was still dying for his team to win, boisterously calling for him to get into the match and going nuts for anything he did.
