Royals acquire Burns from Oakland

With Cain rejoining the Royals before their game Friday night in Texas, rookie outfielder Brett Eibner was optioned to Triple-A Omaha.

Burns, a switch-hitting outfielder, has played in 73 games this season for Oakland, batting.

Eibner, 27, was batting. From a statistical perspective, it represents a decline from his 2015 effort at the plate when he slashed.294/.334/.392 with five home runs and 42 RBI in 125 contests.

His overall speed helps him cover ground in center field and post those fielding numbers, but he is also an asset on the basepaths.

The 26-year old Burns is a solid, but not spectacular defender in centerfield.

Kansas City was thought to be a seller in advance of Monday’s deadline, but appears to have made a long-term addition in Burns, who is under control through 2020. This season, Burns has struggled, hitting just.
