Kansas City Royals reliever Joakim Soria walks back to the mound after giving up a three-run homer to Tampa Bay Rays’ Brad Miller during the eighth inning of a baseball game Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016, in St. Petersburg, Fla.

It was Strahm’s second appearance for the Royals since being called up from Kansas City’s Double-A affiliate.

Rays: Rookie LHP Blake Snell (3-4) will go against Minnesota RHP Ervin Santana (4-9) in the opener of a three-game series Friday between the AL’s two worst teams.

Brad Miller, who had grounded out sharply to Royals second baseman Raul Mondesi in the first and third to strand a combined four runners, hit a ground ball to Mondesi’s left for a single. The Rays earned a split of the four-game series as they closed out the season with a 2-5 mark against the Royals.

It’s pretty easy to find the stars in the Tampa Bay batting order.

The Rays led 2-1 in the seventh when Cash made a decision to let Xavier Cedeno pitch to Salvador Perez, who hit a two-run homer for the winning points.

Moore to the San Francisco Giants on Monday, so reliever Matt Andriese was shifted back from the bullpen to take his start. His turnaround is what the Rays need from the rest of their rotation such as Thursday starter Drew Smyly, who goes into the series finale against the Kansas City Royals with a 3-11 record and a 5.29 ERA.

Kiermaier is hitting just.215 this season, not what you’d expect from a No. 2 hitter, but his on-base percentage is.317 and he leads the team with nine steals despite missing two months with a broken hand.

Tampa Bay is also 0-4 in Smyly’s last four starts with four days’ rest and 1-6 in Smyly’s last seven starts versus the American League Central.

But in the fifth, the Rays broke through for two runs and a 2-1 lead – Kevin Kiemaier’s bunt single was thrown by Ventura into right field, allowing Logan Forsythe (who had walked) to score the tying run. And my dad came over afterward and I was like, ‘Dad, you know who that was?’

Strahm then struck out Brad Miller and Desmond Jennings on four pitches apiece, including a 97 miles per hour pitch to retire Jennings.

Royals: Burns will probably start Thursday because manager Ned Yost does not want Lorenzo Cain to play a fourth straight game on the artificial turf at Tropicana Field. “I’ve been playing well and feel like I’ve gotten better (at short)”. “Just getting back up to speed and making sure that I’m 100 percent confident in this thing going forward”, Duffy said.
