Detroit Tigers pitcher Anibal Sanchez threw seven shutout innings while carrying a no-hitter into the seventh, but ended up getting handed a no-decision against the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday.

Tigers: Miguel Cabrera returned after sitting out Tuesday’s loss with a strained left biceps.
Strahm made an appearance in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Kansas City Royals.
“My guess is (Gordon) was looking first-pitch fastball and jumped on it”, said Tigers manager Brad Ausmus.
The 33-year-old Cabrera (.311), who enters Wednesday’s game with 999 total RBIs since joining the Tigers, will play first base and bat in his usual position, the 3-hole. In the eighth, Justin Wilson allowed a solo homer to Alex Gordon, tying the score at one.
ATLANTA – Ervin Santana got a victory against his former team and in the process helped Minnesota snap a seven-game interleague losing streak against Atlanta.
With the way Cabrillo High grad Danny Duffy has pitched since moving to Kansas City’s rotation in May, he is destined to win a Cy Young sooner than later.
Hosmer restored Kansas City’s two-run lead with a seventh-inning homer to center field that was estimated at 443 feet.
Santana allowed four hits over seven scoreless innings, Joe Mauer homered as part of a three-hit game and the Twins defeated the Braves 4-2 on Tuesday night.
The second-place Tigers need Cabrera to return quickly.
Outfielder Tyler Collins left the game after being hit by a pitch in the sixth inning.
Paulo Orlando started the game with a four-pitch walk, then went to third when Norris threw away Cuthbert’s infield single, leading to the collision with Cabrera as he reached for the ball. A double by Lorenzo Cain brought home Mondesi to extend the Royals lead to 5-1. Vargas and Minor have both missed the entire season. After a walk to Alcides Escobar put runners at the corners, Alex Wilson came in to pitch and Raul Mondesi laid down a safety squeeze. Beltran tied the game with a two-run single to center as he matched his career high with four hits. But in 38 games at Triple-A Toledo, he’s batting.298 with four stolen bases and has not made an error defensively.
Their matchup at Comerica Park on Tuesday, when the Detroit Tigers play host to the Royals, has all the makings of a stellar pitching duel.
