Royals’ Eric Hosmer wins All Star MVP

They hoped to move to San Jose but were blocked by the Giants, whose territory includes that Silicon Valley city. It was supposed to be Big Papi’s night.

Collins made history with the first replay review in All-Star history, getting a fifth-inning call overturned after Daniel Murphy was called out at first base. It turned into Salvador Perez’s magical All-Star evening.

We said it about Sunday’s Futures Game and it’s even more true with the big leaguers: It’s not about results as much as it is about moments.

The AL won for the fourth straight time in this mid-summer classic, once again ensuring this its representative will have home-field advantage in the World Series in October. An inning later, Hosmer would single in yet another run, on his way to an All-Star MVP award. The American League’s 4-2 victory over the N.L.in San Diego got a 5.4 rating on Fox.

Royals reliever Kelvin Herrera pitched a hitless sixth for the AL, which will open the Series at home for the 11th time in 14 years since the All-Star victor has been used to determine the hosts for Games 1 and 2. You know that. But insane good.

“He was the best of them all”, Royals pitching coach Dave Eiland said.

Home teams have taken a 2-0 Series lead in six of the last 13 years. Mookie Betts followed with a single, then Perez blasted a two-run home run to left to give the AL a 3-1 lead.

Hosmer finished two-for-three with two RBIs. That was 70 starts ago.

They became just the second pair of team-mates to hit two home runs in the same inning since Steve Garvey and Jim Wynn of the Los Angeles Dodgers did it in 1975. So rare, according Elias research, that it had never happened before. All he knows is that he’s glad Hosmer is on his side. Yost deployed the American League’s bullpen in a manner familiar from many of Kansas City’s postseason contests over the last two years.

Still, Cubs All-Star third baseman Kris Bryant, who grew up in San Diego buoyed the mood of the folks back home when he slammed Chicago White Sox starter Chris Sale’s first-pitch fastball off the left-field façade.

I don’t want to rant or be that angry guy, but there are a few pet peeves that hit me like fingernails on a chalkboard.

David Ortiz had a walk and a line-drive out in what’s expected to be the final All-Star Game for the Boston slugger, who plans to retire this fall.

Hosmer’s homer off Johnny Cueto tied the score. “It’s been a long time since I’ve been that proud of two players in a moment like that”.

“Couldn’t have worked out any better”, Hosmer said. “He told me it was the catcher’s fault – he called it. Then 3-2 he threw me a slider and I’m like, ‘Are you trying to break my back?’ But he said it was the catcher’s fault”. It’s also better than the 7.6 million viewers the National Basketball Association managed for its All-Star game on TNT in February. Hosmer also earned MVP honors, and it’s always nice to be in an exclusive club with Bo Jackson. Perez looked up in mid-interview and lurched toward his All-Star co-star, to deliver a high-five and a hug, saying: “What’s up, my MVP?” “We play together a lot. I was going to do anything I could do to get him on this team this year”.

But, it was not the first time a team from Missouri accomplished the feat. Instead, MLB has allowed fans to vote on who they think should be the starter at each position except for pitcher. “For them, this might be a much smaller stage”. “And I’ve seen it the last two years. It was just special”.

The Royals won in five games for their first title since 1985.

He meant that in more ways than one.

Hosmer is certainly a shoe-in for the Royals Hall of Fame once his career is over with.
