In addition to his rally-thwarting throw from right field, Dyson tripled and scored the go-ahead run against Wright in the sixth inning.

“I just try to do my job”. “They know what I can do to help the team”. Joakim Soria shut the door with a scoreless inning to get the Royals back to.500 on the year, at 19-19. Paulo Orlando then pounded him for a two-run home run, one of his three hits on the day, and the Royals had a comfortable four-run lead heading into the ninth. Its no surprise that in the 9th inning of a 1-run ball game the Royals turned to closer Wade Davis.

“We kept coming at guys”. “This isn’t something we feel we’re back to ground zero”, Farrell said.

Verlander finished the afternoon going 7 1/3 innings, yielding three runs on six hits and three walks with 10 strikeouts in the Tigers’ 6-3 victory over the Twins.

The knuckleballer set down 10 straight at one point, but the two extra-base hits came back to haunt him. He’s coming off one of his best starts in a Red Sox uniform, allowing a season-low one run and striking out 12 in 6 2/3 innings of an 11-1 win over Houston on Thursday.

“I think the questions are warranted, I really do”, Ned Yost said Monday, shortly before the game was postponed. In the 5th inning, Ian Kennedy gave up a solo HomeRun to Chris Young making it a 2-2 ball game.

Forty-year-old David Ortiz likely played his last game at Kauffman Stadium in game 2, since he’s announced he will retire at the end of the season during spring training. Luckily the offense came to play, and they salvaged two of those games.

Most people are looking forward to the evening clash between David Price and Edinson Volquez.

RETRANSMITTING TO REMOVE SCORE IN SECOND SENTENCE Kansas City Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer (35) … The Red Sox also entered the game having been successful on 30 of 32 stolen base attempts.

The first defensive gem was more evidence that things falling in favor of the Royals, who won their third straight and improved to 20-19. Can the reigning World Series champions really apply the clamps today?

Early innings of the game have been Boston’s most productive time. Were we seeing the real Rick Porcello or did we just see a good month from a highly paid pitcher? But the good news is Joe Kelly, who’s been out with a shoulder impingement, could start Saturday when the Red Sox visit the Cleveland Indians.

FARRELL GETS TOSSED – Red Sox manager John Farrell was ejected in the seventh for arguing with plate umpire Bill Miller over the strike zone. Buchholz could very well have a similar return to form – in 2012, he posted an 8.31 ERA over his first seven starts and 39 innings, before a much more Bucholzian 3.59 mark over his final 150 innings.

Royals: RHP Chris Young (right forearm strain) is throwing from 60 feet but has yet to pitch from the mound.

Royals: 3B Mike Moustakas (broken left thumb) will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Wednesday.

So far this season, the Royals are 1-0 against the Red Sox.

Boston’s rollicking offense slowed down in last night’s series opener against the Royals, but only marginally. It was a strong bounce-back effort after he’d yielded a season-worst five earned runs on a rainy night at Fenway Park last Friday.
