Chicago wasted a 4-2 lead in the eighth after failing to protect a 5-2 seventh-inning advantage on Friday and a 7-1 ninth-inning margin on Saturday.

In his major-league debut, Brett Eibner sparked a comeback win for the Kansas City Royals.

“It’s not nice not getting hits”, Frazier said. You can’t let it change, you know, the fun part of the game of going after hitters, for me, especially. “You can’t close it out, and you get punished like that”. Just go about your business.

At least one person was dead and three others were missing after torrential thunderstorms caused flooding in Texas, officials said as they braced for the possibility of more rain over the long Memorial Day weekend.

The White Sox are 4-1 in their last five Sunday games, and 5-0 in Sale’s last five road starts. In Friday’s opener, the Royals edged out Chicago 7-5.

Held to six hits through eight innings, the Royals doubled their total in the 32-minute bottom of the ninth and overcame a six-run deficit for the first time since beating the Giants on June 22, 2008.

“We’re still talking with the doctor, get a second opinion, see where we’re at”, Moustakas said. “To be honest with you, I’ve seen comebacks like that”. There’s not a whole lot that surprises me. Looking at the numbers makes it hard not to think about what could have been. “But, at the same time, I’m absolutely upset that we didn’t win”.

Adam Wainwright pitched seven gritty innings and made an ample contribution at the plate, hitting a two-run double to help the St. Louis Cardinals defeat the Washington Nationals 9-4 Saturday night.

Logan Verrett (3-2) relieved Syndergaard and gave up two runs in 3 2/3 innings for the loss. Eric Hosmer is 0-for-1 against him with a walk, an RBI and a strikeout.

Kahnle relieved Robertson, who threw 29 pitches, and Butera doubled on his third offering, driving the ball on one hop to the left-field wall.

In a scene that seemed inevitable since October, Syndergaard was immediately ejected following the third-inning pitch – nearly certainly his shot at retaliation against Utley for the late takeout slide that broke the right leg of then-Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada in last year’s playoffs.

Avisail Garcia, Dioner Navarro and Austin Jackson hit consecutive singles with one out in the sixth to load the bases for Melky Cabrera, who cleared them with a first-pitch grand slam.
