Royals win Game 2, take commanding World Series lead
They’ll look to begin their rally on Friday night when they host the Royals at Citi Field in Game 3 of the best-of-seven series. “When you realize your bullpen is pretty much spent and they’re pretty much burnt out, he went out there and put the team on his back”.

“Right now we can’t think about the hole that we’re in”.
They weren’t sure what fans would see from Kansas City hurler Johnny Cueto.
However, Cueto “suffered” through his worst season since 2010.
Cueto pitched a complete game, giving up just two hits, both to Lucas Duda. He struck out four and walked three while tossing 70 of 122 pitches for strikes. He threw 122 pitches.
“That’s what they brought me here for, to help win a World Series”, Cueto said.
Meanwhile, starter Johnny Cueto held the Mets to a run on two hits through nine innings to earn the win.
New York’s deGrom was looking to become the first pitcher in postseason history to go 4-0 on the road, and though he threw 98 miles per hour fastballs early in the game, the Royals shrugged off his firepower.
After allowing a run in the fourth, Royals starter Johnny Cueto bounced back nicely, setting down the bottom of the Mets lineup in order in the fifth inning. My second baseman (Daniel Murphy) lives and dies with his lower body. He has 27 RBI in 28 total career post-season games.
The Mets will send 23-year-old Noah Syndergaard (9-7, 3.24 ERA) to the mound. He has 15 RBIs in 13 postseason games.
Alex Gordon, Royals Left Fielder: “You can’t take anything for granted especially against a team like this”. Escobar ended the scoring with an RBI triple to deep center field. For the Mets, alas: three more singles and four runs. “We knew that (they were relentless) going into the game”.
“We’re going to ask him to step up and carry us through seven innings and I think he can do it”, Collins said. They didn’t look like it (of course neither did the offense). “They did a good job of doing that tonight”. It has been a long time since the New York Mets have been in the World Series and just as the Royals thrive off of the fans at Kauffman Stadium, I believe the Mets will be able to do the same as well at Citi Field. In his disastrous prior outing in the American League Championship Series, he gave up eight runs in two innings. He was lifted for Hansel Robles to start the sixth.
When Edinson Volquez slipped into the clubhouse after being taken out of Game 1 he was greeted by his wife, kids, brother and Royals General Manager Dayton Moore.
The game got out of hand in the eighth, when Kansas City added three more runs off the Mets bullpen to pad their lead.

This night, however, belonged to Cueto. It’s not like something like this is surprising. Many Major League Baseball teams have struggled to make waves against the more intricate defensive alignments of the past several years, and Duda’s lesson could be valuable for a few of the Mets’ more one-dimensional hitters to learn. However, if the Royals do win the Series, it would be hard to imagine a better sales pitch than “want to win another?”
