Royer helps Red Bulls clinch playoff spot, 1-0 over Impact
By virtue of the New York Red Bulls’ 1-0 win over the Montreal Impact, the three frontrunners in the Eastern Conference – Toronto FC, New York Red Bulls and New York City FC – all booked their ticket to the postseason dance.

To see these three teams qualify for the playoffs – and do it with weeks in the regular season to spare – is significant in different ways.
Jesse Marsch’s team is coming off a 3-3 draw with Toronto F.C. last week, and is tied for second place in the Eastern Conference.
On the other side, the Red Bulls are now sitting in 3rd place in the East and have the opportunity to lock down an MLS playoff birth this evening.
Story line: The Red Bulls (12-9-9) return home looking to extend its MLS undefeated streak to 13 games. The Red Bulls own the goal-differential tiebreaker, but Toronto FC has a game in hand.
The Red Bulls edged the Montreal Impact 1-0 to go top of the conference, sealing their place in the post-season. Add into the mix the fact that Montreal have never won a league match at Red Bull arena and things do not look great for Montreal. With Donny Toia not making the trip to NY, there is a good chance Victor Cabrera will re-join the starting XI.

“Had our finishing been a bit better, we could have gotten more from our performance tonight”, said Montreal’s Didier Drogba.
