“My momentum took me into the stands, and my head went right into the arm rest”.
Lost in the fireworks was a solid start by Miguel Gonzalez, who the Sox called up for the occasion. With the game tied in the sixth inning, Marte hammered the first offering from reliever Steve Geltz over the right field wall to give the Mariners a 5-2 cushion.
The comeback spoiled a chance for White Sox starter Carlos Rodon to earn his first win since April 13.
He’s allowed four runs over five innings in each of his last two, with 18 hits total over that span. Thankfully for Latos, his teammates have scored 18 runs in those contests, but he’s yet to complete more than 6 1/3 innings in any outing.
Seattle’s Ketel Marte hit a tiebreaking three-run homer and had a career-high four hits to lead the Mariners to a 5-2 victory over Tampa Bay. Pinch-hitter Mitch Moreland singled home a run, Adrian Beltre drove in another with a sacrifice fly and Ian Desmond hit a two-run triple before Rua’s homer against Matt Albers (1-1).
Frazier has not hit for a great average thus far this season (.215) but has made a tremendous impact on the team on defense, in the clubhouse, and even leads the team in RBI’s (27) and home runs (10).
“With experience, you understand it’s going to come around, and I’m just glad it came today and in extra innings”, Frazier said.
Nearly immediately, Frazier sprinted off the field and into the tunnel in the White Sox dugout. Holland allowed three runs on five hits over 6.1 innings pitched.
