Angry and anxious, Republican lawmakers and veterans groups hastened to disavow Donald Trump’s repeated criticism of a bereaved military family Monday, but the GOP presidential nominee refused to back down.

Donald Trump speaks in Denver on July 29, 2016. “But, and as far as I’m concerned, he’s a hero”, Trump said.

“As I have said on numerous occasions, a religious test for entering our country is not reflective of these fundamental values”.

“The meaning of Islam is peace and love”, she said.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan released statements condemning any criticism of Muslim-Americans, though neither denounced Trump by name.

“There is a responsibility for all of us when they cross the line and for me especially to cross the line with the military, to speak out against that and to reaffirm that we honor and appreciate their service and nothing that is said or done in politics changes that”.

In an interview with ABC News on the weekend, the magnate said that when Khzir Khan said that he (Trump) had not sacrificed anything in comparison with their son he was wrong because he had worked “very hard” and created “thousands of jobs” in building hotels and other real estate projects over the years.

Khan was critical of Trump in a Thursday night speech before the Democratic National Convention.

Trump “attacked a compelling and sympathetic victim that is not afraid of him and the Democrats are making sure it damages” the Republican nominee, Mackowiak said. “That is not true”, she wrote. Cory Gardner on Monday joined a growing list of Republicans critical of Donald Trump for his verbal feud with a Muslim-American couple whose son died fighting for the U.S. Army in Iraq.

“It is unbelievable what he is saying about Captain Khan and Captain Khan’s family”, added Trivedi, who added that the remarks were “beyond the pale”.

In the document, obtained from a congressional source, the campaign argued that this is not fight between Trump and the Khan family but ‎”this is really about Mr. Trump vs. Hillary Clinton and who has the best vision for defeating radical Islamic terrorism‎”. A spokesman for Patrick did not immediately respond to requests for comment Monday on Trump’s war of words with the Khans. “She probably, maybe she wasn’t allowed to have something to say”. And he said this of Trump: “You have sacrificed nothing and no one”.

“Well, I was very viciously attacked, as you know, on the stage”, Trump told ABC6 in Columbus, according to BuzzFeed. The first time was in support of the Kosovo operation, the second time he deployed to the Middle East in the years between the Iraq wars, and the third time was on a training mission in Germany.

On Twitter, Republican strategist Ana Navarro called Trump’s comments about the Khans “gross” and labeled him a “jerk”.
