Rubio Picks Up SC Senator Endorsement

Tim Scott (R-S.C.) makes his most critical decisions by listing the pros and cons on a sheet of paper. Tim Scott (R) as the second high-profile member of the Senate to endorse Rubio this week. “It’s our time to pick the candidate who can beat Hillary Clinton”, Rubio senior advisor Jim Merrill said introducing the candidate. “Let’s get the boy in the bubble out of the bubble for the next week in New Hampshire because I will be ready to see him Saturday night”, when the candidates are scheduled to meet for the next GOP debate. “Marco Rubio understands that here in America, it’s not about where you start”. The campaign for Carson, who finished fourth in Iowa, said he had accepted Cruz’s apology but that the incident was the sort of “dirty trick” politics that Carson was trying to fight.

During the state Republican Party’s committee meeting in December, Cruz won a presidential straw poll, receiving 44 percent of the 164 votes cast.

Citadel Political Science Professor DuBose Kapeluck talked to News 2 about what this endorsement might mean for the SC primary.

Saylor said he likes both Kasich and Christie but came out for Rubio because of the amount of issues they agree on and the energy and vibrancy he says Rubio brings to the race.

Rubio also said he could sense the growing support in Iowa before the caucuses. On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton barely eked out a win over Bernie Sanders. Even if you’re not a fan of Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Dr. Ben Carson or Carly Fiorina, you have to appreciate what that means for the “party of old white people”.

Susan Duprey, who served as chief of staff to Ann Romney, Mitt Romney’s wife, in 2011 and 2012, announced her support for the Florida senator on Tuesday night.

It also came a week after Rubio landed an endorsement from another well-respected lawmaker in South Carolina, Rep. Trey Gowdy, reports NBC News.

She said she felt Rubio was a candidate who could appeal to younger and older voters. “I think maybe some Trump voters are coming over because of some of the shenanigans”, she said. “But I think it’s time for us to recognize that maybe what we need is someone who can lead”. “The way he is and the things he says, I think it might be better in the general election”.
