Rubio Raises $6M Over Last 3 Months

The news comes after Rubio posted a $9 million haul during the first three months of his campaign after his announcement in mid-April.

Because of his modest take over the summer, Rubio’s campaign was operating at a steep 81 percent burn rate – racing through almost $4.6 million of the $6 million raised in the third quarter, according to a calculation by The Washington Post.

Rubio’s campaign shared its figures with top donors in Las Vegas on Thursday, a person who attended the gathering told Bloomberg. Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson raked in more than $20 million.

“We are thrilled to see a grassroots wave of support for our campaign gaining momentum all over the country”, Cruz said in a statement.

His campaign started the month with $11 million in cash reserves. That’s about what Carson had in the bank after expenses, suggesting that Rubio’s team is spending its resources more cautiously than a few of his competitors. About $3 million had been transferred from his Senate reelection campaign.

Rubio will announce his plans for the United States’ energy policy at BOC Water Hydraulics in Salem on Friday, October 16, according to his campaign event page. It reflects what those briefed at the donor retreat describe as a hard fundraising environment over the summer.

The Republican will be in southern Nevada for two more days. That money will go to the Republican Assembly Campaign Committee.

Cruz’s financial success has been a large part of his team’s argument for why he will win the Republican nomination: Cruz fashions himself as the only well-funded conservative candidate, and he boasts of his financial success in almost every stump speech.
