Jeb Bush, whose father was also president, played down his famous family roots for most of past year in his pursuit of the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, but in need of a boost, he has been relying more heavily on his family ties.
He adds, “I even got along with Harry Reid, can you imagine?” referring to Democratic Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid. Assessing the local forces, Dawson said: “Cruz probably has the best ground game”.
In response, Cruz spokeswoman Catherine Frazier said the Texas senator voted for a Rubio budget amendment that would have raised the 2016 defense budget from $620 billion to $697 billion.
Having finished third and fifth place in the first two primary contests, Rubio said his team is focused on collecting delegates in what could become a long slog to his presidential nomination. “Here in SC particularly, that’s an important issue”.
Sanders and Clinton move on to Nevada, where Sanders will try to prove his mettle with a more diverse and urban electorate before the Democratic race shifts to SC.
Sanders says his campaign had no money, organization or name recognition when it started.
After placing a stronger-than-expected third in Iowa, Rubio hoped to coalesce the center-right behind him with a second-place finish in New Hampshire, creating the perception of a three-man race. In a statement, she took an apparent swipe at those who say that young women should support Clinton because of her gender and also at Trump, with whom she clashed in debates.
