Rudy Giuliani says he’ll vote for Trump – but won’t endorse him

Yesterday former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani – a political figure blogger Allahpundit accurately describes as a liberal New York Republican – threw his support behind Donald Trump in the race for the White House.

Given that Cruz made a point of maligning so-called “New York values”, an endorsement from a former Big Apple mayor would have been a Brooklyn Bridge too far.

Giuliani – who was mayor from 1994 to 2001 – told the newspaper he met with Trump’s closest competitor, Ted Cruz, a few months ago.

“He’s my friend, and I think of the candidates, of the choices that I have, he’s the best choice for president”, he told the Times. “We’re family. I can make fun of NY”.

Trump, as Giuliani mentioned, hopes to win the NY primary by taking more than half the vote, and the Giuliani endorsement could help him achieve that goal, speculates Business Insider. Giuliani tells the Post that he doesn’t support all of Trump’s positions, but is on board when it comes to the economy, immigration, and security.

However, Giuliani later clarified to The New York Times that he is not formerly endorsing his fellow native New Yorker. Giuliani also said he “didn’t like” Trump’s decision to circulate an unflattering photo of Cruz’s wife, Heidi, on Twitter.

“Rudy knows me well, and therefore it is an event greater honor than it normally would be”, he added.

“Threatening to withdraw from North Atlantic Treaty Organisation will get a better deal with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation”.

“Trump is a negotiator”, Giuliani said.

“It’s New York City”. Giuliani said that he’s on Cruz’s camp in Austin, Texas, where he planned to have a courtesy meeting with Gov. Gregg Abbott.
