Adding to the problems that have mounted at a critical juncture is the possible citing of Wood for an incident that forced Wales full-back Liam Williams from the field with concussion.
James Hook and Gareth Anscombe have been called into Wales’ World Cup squad as Warren Gatland moves to deal with an injury list that worsened considerably at Twickenham on Saturday.
Wales have suffered two more major World Cup injury blows with centre Scott Williams and wing Hallam Amos both sidelined for the rest of the tournament.
In a statement, subject to World Rugby confirmation, the WRU said: “Following the Rugby World Cup victory against England on Saturday, Scott Williams (knee) and Hallam Amos (shoulder) have sustained injuries that will preclude them from taking any further part in the tournament, and they have subsequently been released from the Wales squad”.
Wales’ stunning 28-25 victory at Twickenham left the hosts’ quest teetering on the brink of collapse, having been in a seemingly comfortable position at 10 points ahead with half an hour remaining of a match they had dominated.
“I’m not nervous, but it reminds me of a similar feeling after the second Test for the Lions against Australia when we had a big opportunity to win the series that was missed”.
“I don’t know whether four or five-day turnarounds in World Cups are too short”.
It’s hoped he will have made a recovery in time to play against Australia. “We need to finish sides off”.
Matthew Morgan, 23, and 20-year-old Tyler Morgan make first World Cup starts as Wales look to close in on the quarter-finals, with Gatland’s powerful line-up reflecting the huge importance of Thursday’s game. I was impressed that a couple of players after the game were happy with the win, but not 100 per cent happy with their own performance.
And Wales captain Sam Warburton, who praised fellow back-row cap half-centurions Lydiate and Faletau, has backed Gatland’s stance.
“This is everything to me and the other players”.

“The chat’s been about making sure we’re mentally right and that’s the key. There will be no complacency”.
