Rumor: Google is working on two Nexus smartwatches
Now, Google is also working on two Nexus-branded smartwatches that run on Android Wear.

The larger watch in Google’s Android Wear will feature LTE, GPS and a heart-rate sensor. Both the phones are expected to have a circular dial and resemble the Moto 360 in more than one ways. One device is codenamed “Angelfish” and will have a larger watch face with a sporty design, similarly to the LG Urbane LTE. A single button at the center of its right side will function similarly to the Apple Watch’s Digital Crown, but the device won’t have Global Positioning System or heart-rate monitoring capabilities. This is reportedly the smaller of the two, looking somewhat similar to the Pebble Time Round, albeit with a much smaller bezel.
It will have a premium finish called “Titanium” and it will host a button on the right side of the watch. It’ll be sized at 42mm and with a thickness of 10.6mm, come in three colors (silver, titanium, and rose gold), and contain a single rounded button.
It seems Google is developing these smartwatches to be a reference platform for Wear 2.0 and their new artificially intelligent assistant. Apple’s smartwatch is now the biggest name on the market, meaning Google will have to come up with ways to make the watches it’s reportedly developing stand out.
The “Swordfish” bears similarity to the Moto 360 watch (pictured) but has three buttons on its frame.
Both watches will feature Google’s new Assistant.
Unlike Apple – with the Apple Watch, Google doesn’t have a smartwatch of its own yet.
All of this information comes from Android Police, who are quoting unnamed sources. It is unlikely to have a heart rate monitor. The watches are likely to be Nexus-branded and will feature Google Assistant integration. With these two smartwatches, Google is effectively making sure that users can afford either of the two, as per their needs. Plus, it would give Google some flagship Android Wear smartwatches to go head-to-head with Apple and Samsung’s wearables in the second half of 2016.
Its straps are compatible with Google’s MODE bands too, unlike the “Angelfish”.
Swordfish being the smallest will not feature some features such as LTE and Global Positioning System.
