A player can gather information about the planets and its lifeforms; then upload it to the Atlas, a galactic database that is shared by players. Possibly another hint about things that should not be talked about now were actually being talked about. And for a while, that’s all anybody needed.

While an excellent way to get to the center of the universe quickly by cheating, this will ultimately ruin the game for many players, so I hope Hello Games is working on a patch for this right now! Are you enjoying it?

Now, in the wake of the first week of No Man’s Sky release, the lack of information has, understandably, led to fans and critics alike being disappointed about what the game truly is.

Not only would this be an excellent way of introducing another passive “multiplayer” connection into No Man’s Sky’s lonely universe, but it would also serve as an instant viral attention generation engine.

The good thing about the PC version for No Man’s Sky is that the developer has included several types of settings. That undersells what else there is to do, but the survival base underpins your entire time with the game. “If you are having issues and want to check this out immediately, we have made it available in a new Steam branch, called ‘Experimental'”.

And when you’re not doing that, you’re exploring planets. As Murray tweeted Friday afternoon, it’s due to the “frankly insane amount of people” trying to run the game “within 15 minutes of it releasing”.

And while that’s always been true, it’s something that’s amplified by No Man’s Sky magnitude. It’ll be interesting to see how much the PC version can minimise “pop-in” of textures when landing on planets.

You play the role of a lost traveler plopped into a random spot of this universe. The other photo system would involve uploading your favorite shots to an online clearinghouse, where other players and even non-playing lookie-loos would be encouraged to rank their favorites (with more votes translating to more in-game currency for each photo). This is the core competency of No Man’s Sky, the sense of wonder it can draw out of a player.
