The Nexus 7 did not receive any air time during the Google I/O in May, despite a developer preview launched last March. While the updates Google delivers through the program are specific to Nexus devices, the company gives its partners at least a full month in lead time to address whatever is wrong with Android before making the issues public though the bulletins. Similarly, the page also outlines that Motorola Google Nexus 6 and HTC Google Nexus Tab will stop receiving Android updates from October 2016.

Google already made it known that it would support each of its Nexus devices for at least two years into their lives.
I still have my Nexus 6 and know this will be the last Android update I’ll receive, but I’m not too anxious about getting any more for this device.
Moreover, the support page also mentions devices whose guaranteed update cycle ended.
The report said that the 2016 Nexus phones would be faster than competing Android flagship devices, adding that the Galaxy Note 7 and the Asus ZenFone 3 Deluxe could also make use of the same processor. This means that after the date, there is no guarantee that Google will continue updating your phone with the latest build of Android. Keep in mind that Google simply can’t offer “guaranteed version updates” after these dates, so it doesn’t completely rule out future updates for these devices.
It is further expected that one of these Nexus smartphones will feature a 5-inch display while the other high-end version will have a 5.5-inch display.

One of the advantages to owning a Nexus device is that they’re always the first ones to get new versions of Google as soon as they’re released. Security patches are promised for three years from availability or 18 months from when Google last sold the device.
