Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain is said to be interested in a move to Liverpool this summer, despite the Reds having failed to qualify for any European competitions in a season dominated by ultimately futile cup runs.

In fact, Napoli’s performance was so good in the first half of the season they were leading the table for the first time since the days of the legendary Diego Maradona, during the winter break.

Argentina worldwide Higuain has always been linked with a move to the Premier League and the Napoli striker has regularly been touted as a target for Arsenal.

The former Real Madrid striker has also drawn admiring glances from Arsenal and Manchester United, but the paper adds that Higuain, a £34.5 million signing back in 2013, is intrigued at the prospect of linking up with Reds manager Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool are expected to fully revamp their forward line this summer, with £32.5m man Christian Benteke’s future looking decidedly uncertain while Daniel Sturridge remains some way short of the unquestioned leading role he desires.

The striker overall goal record stands at 71 goals in 104 appearances for Napoli.
