Run games key for UW, Ohio State

Ohio State ranks No. 2 nationally in scoring defense (10.8 points a game) and Wisconsin is No. 4 in that category (12.2 points a game). Wisconsin held MI to one touchdown until the fourth quarter when the Wolverines scored the winning points.

During the weekly Big Ten teleconference, Meyer was reminded that during media days in July he said his Buckeyes were loaded with talent, but it remained to be seen how quickly they would progress.

At the Big Ten’s football media days in Chicago in July, Mark Dantonio talked about the “winning culture” of Michigan State football.

UW has only lost four games since, three of them by just one score.

– Wisconsin has 17 100-yard rushers against Ohio State. Including QB J.T. Barrett, Ohio State has three players over 300 yards rushing.

With 26 rushing touchdowns at Ohio State, Barrett is responsible for 86 scores. “I think that is a good thing”.

“Real unsafe”, he said.

Ash’s own social media team decided it was a waste of their time to live tweet his still young rebuilding squad getting torn back down by the Wolverines after Wilton Speight found Jehu Chesson in the end zone to make it 14-0 in the first quarter. “Losing like that, when you come into the game thinking you’re prepared and just nothing’s going right and nothing’s working, it’s tough”. They have an excellent running back, a very efficient pass game.

“He’s big; he’s physical”, Cichy said. Not only is this bold for the simple fact that five touchdowns for one player is a whole lot of touchdowns, but the Badgers are also only allowing 12.2 points per game. While he has four touchdowns, he has thrown five interceptions. In a 31-14 home loss to BYU last week, Tyler O’Connor was pulled after hitting 7-of-11 passes for 58 yards.

And pretty much anywhere under Urban Meyer in his four-plus years at Ohio State.

“As long as we’re at the top of the nation and at the top of the Big Ten in run defense and not giving up any run touchdowns and playing great defense overall, I have no complaints”.

“I think there (have) been a few instances where we’ve been trying to take the explosive run instead of just taking what’s there”, Chryst said. Typical of a Harbaugh coached team, the Wolverines are very physical up front and like to impose their will on teams week in, week out. Their best National Football League prospects are a pair of outside linebackers, senior Vince Biegel and junior T.J. Watt, the younger brother of J.J. Watt. “And the tempo offense that they run, that’s something we’re going to have to slow down come game time”.

One last note, Wisconsin comes out strong. I wouldn’t say that’s something that we’ve carried with ourselves, just like we don’t carry any loss with us. Regardless, they felt the wrath of the Buckeyes from a couple state-lines away. One of those was for disconcerting, so Ohio State will want to watch that the defense doesn’t mimic the signal calling of the Buckeye offense this weekend. He’ll employ a ground and pound approach on offense and maybe the best defense the Badgers have fielded in recent years.

Barrett said, “We did have our struggles in that game”. They’re fun to be around. No. 2 showdown in 2006, they had six common opponents entering that game: Minnesota, Michigan State, Penn State, Iowa, Northwestern and Indiana.

Within the program, coaches and players talk about having two seasons happening simultaneously with the conference schedule and the non-conference slate.

“We’re not looking in the rear view mirror at all”, Watt said. That stretch of Wisconsin, Ohio State and Maryland a couple weeks later will show this team’s resolve.

“Every team is faceless for us”.

“This will be another new challenge, a new experience for him”, Chryst said.
