Run the Jewels ‘Meow the Jewels’ (album stream)

What started as a joke quickly became reality, as producer El-P put up a crowdfunding page and fans put over $65,000 toward the project.

Run The Jewels would like to thank our friends, fans, and fam who made this possible.

It’s been twelve months since we initially reported on Meow The Jewels – a remix project in which Run the Jewels 2 would be recreated sampling cat noises – and it’s finally here!

The band claim that this is the first Cat Rap album clearly having forgotten about Beastie Boys’ Paws Boutique.

“Meow The Jewels” features Snoop Dogg, Massive Attack’s 3D, Portishead’s Geoff Barrow, Blood Diamonds, Boots, Zola Jesus, Just Blaze and more. You can pre-order a 2 LP edition on “tawny brown” vinyl with “faux-fur hands” on the jacket over here. To be fair – it is mostly cat sounds, and in an interview with Deadspin El-P stated that his personal rule was “only use sounds that were cat sounds”, though there was a loose definition of what that meant. It’s oxymoronic. It’s uncalled for and essential. It’s not a cat version of RTJ2, it’s a remix album of RTJ2… with cats.
