Rupert Wyatt: ‘Gambit’ Director Exits Movie Starring Channing Tatum

This is a pretty major blow to the project, and while Fox will no doubt act quickly to find his replacement, Wyatt being at the helm is the reason many were excited for Gambit!

Starting as a snowball effect when an unnamed source told The Hollywood Reporter that a delayed start to filming caused a conflict in Wyatt’s schedule, Wyatt himself released an official statement about his departure from the mutant superhero movie.

There were rumors that the director encountered some issues concerning the script and budget, but Wyatt has said that it was not the case, since the real issue was regarding the timing of the film.

What do you think of Gambit moving forward without Rupert Wyatt?

Tatum has been really excited to create the movie, even mastering Remy LeBeau’s distinct Cajun accent and practicing his card-throwing skills.

Now Gambit has a star in Channing Tatum but no director.

Screen Rant reported that Fox is aiming to expand its X-Men universe, starting with the character Deadpool. The disappointment caused by Josh Trank’s “Fantastic Four” might discourage Fox from leaving the controls of a potential franchise on a single writer/director. Reid Carolin, Simon Kinberg, Channing Tatum and Lauren Shuler Donner are the film producers.

It also means the previously planned October 7, 2016 release was unlikely.
