Russell Westbrook knew not of Kevin Durant’s departure

Westbrook didn’t include a caption or text officially announcing his contract extension, but the timing of the post implied he is indeed staying in Oklahoma City for the time being.

Westbrook said he had spoken to Durant during the early part of the process, but following that nothing.

“Me being able to come back here is a true blessing”, Westbrook said.

Naturally, there is a lot expected from the eight-year player as Westbrook will undoubtedly be the top player in the team.

“Nah, that’s a touchy subject, I’ll see once everything dies down”, he told reporters, before saying he was happy for him. When he made a decision to sign a three year extension with the team (worth $85 million, with an opt out after year two), this gesture went a long way toward assuaging fan concerns. It also takes the pressure off Oklahoma City to trade him this year because Westbrook is now under contract for the next two seasons. You better believe without a shadow of a doubt that Russell Westbrook is going to want to get revenge on his old friend and former teammate Kevin Durant because he’s the biggest traitor I have ever scene. Definitely wanted to have the opportunity to be loyal to you guys. Westbrook said Durant’s departure opened the door for his own extension with the Thunder.

Westbrook averaged 23.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, 10.5 assists and 2.0 steals last season.

It’s the best news Thunder fans have heard in quite a while and puts any questions as to whether or not the team should trade Westbrook in 2016-17 to rest.

NBA rumors surrounding Westbrook will once again pick up around that time, especially if the Thunder struggles in the first half of the 2016-2017 NBA Season. “We are excited that Russell has chosen to continue to build the legacy of the Thunder with us as we move forward together”. His competitiveness, character, and unique athletic ability have propelled him to the forefront of the game.
