Russell Wilson ‘planning on playing’ despite sprain, Pete Carroll says
The Seattle Seahawks barely survived an upset loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 1 by completing a late fourth-quarter comeback led by quarterback Russell Wilson.

But their decision to take a knee during “The Star-Spangled Banner” on such an emotional day and the big stage of the National Football League season’s opening week stoked a variety of reactions – many of them negative. However, his attempt at protection didn’t matter. “It’s just, he’s got a sprained ankle”.
Gase offered updates on defensive end Mario Williams and defensive tackle Earl Mitchell, who both left the game against Seattle because of injuries. Trevone Boykin is now the primary backup, but he’s inexperienced and not ready to be a starting quarterback in the NFL.
Teammates weren’t surprised Wilson gutted out the game. Wilson had his ankle re-taped and did not miss a snap.
“No shot”, he said. But he let me know it wasn’t going to affect his play. That’s just my mentality, whatever it takes. “My thing was how are we going to respond to this adversity?”
“We’ll take care of him and do a really good job of taking care of him through the week, but we’re counting on him making it back”. There’s also a process to decide what the Dolphins will do just before that game and if some players – Stills included – will again kneel during the playing of the national anthem.
For the remainder of the game, Wilson was noticeably less mobile.
“I don’t think there was any lack of respect”, said Ross, answering a reporter’s question about those the protest being unpatriotic. “But I was telling Coach Carroll and some of the trainers, when I’m 43, 44, 45 years old and still playing, that’s probably what I’ll look like out there”.
His status is unclear heading into week 2’s matchup against divisional foe Los Angeles Rams.
Wilson’s mobility was limited after the injury but he was able to scramble a couple of times on Seattle’s final drive, which was capped by his 2-yard TD pass to Doug Baldwin with 31 seconds left.
“He’s practicing on Wednesday”. The 12-10 win was like many we’ve seen from Seattle in Wilson’s tenure, but this one had a twist.

NOTES: RB C.J. Prosise cracked a bone in his right wrist in the second half on Sunday that essentially ended his afternoon. You can’t put this one on the special teams or the coaching staff, either. However, his backfield opportunities evaporated due to the injury. His mentality, his toughness, his edge, his passion for the game, it doesn’t get any better than that.
