The two sides have been working on a number of defence deals and they are understood to have figured in the talks.

In an apparent swipe at his detractors back home, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said some people only talk about problems while his government was trying to resolve them.
Russian Federation will supply India with 10 million tons of oil annually in the next 10 years, President Vladimir Putin said after meeting Indian PM Narendra Modi in Moscow.
“Our relations are developing in all areas: this applies to political matters and the coordination of our efforts on the worldwide arena; it also applies to the economy and humanitarian cooperation”, he said.
These talks have been held annually since 2000 and hosted alternately between Moscow and Delhi.
As Modi visited Russia for the 16th annual India-Russia Summit, both countries on Thursday signed 16 agreements across diverse sectors-including the manufacturing of nuclear reactors, solar energy plants, railways and helicopter. He further said that Moscow would try hard to increase the volume of bilateral trade from United States dollars 10 billion in 2015 to USD 30 billion in 2025.
Putin conveyed Russia’s “strong support” to India’s bid for permanent membership of the UN Security Council, saying it is a “deserving and strong candidate that can bring an independent and responsible approach” within the world body. “India and Russian Federation will fight and end terrorism together and all forces of humanity have to come together to combat terrorism”.
With its decision to build 12 nuclear reactor plants in India, Russia – one of the largest nuclear powers in the world – is poised to be India’s biggest partner in its indigenous nuclear programme.
He, along with Putin, also addressed chief executives of Russian and Indian companies and invited Russia’s private sector to be a partner in India’s prosperity. The two leaders met to discuss the growing relationship between India and Russia, their status as BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) nations, and the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Russian news agency Tass reported. When superpowers ruled the world, Russian Federation always stood by India, said he.
India could be in the market for as many as five systems, the paper’s defence sources said, with deals on Russian frigates and a helicopter-building joint venture also on the cards.

It may be mentioned that Indian Defence Ministry had cleared a deal of purchase of Russian S-400 Triumf air defence missile systems and an announcement of the deal is expected during Summit. Modi, the first Indian PM who visited Pakistan after Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2004, surprised the media by suddenly announcing his visit to Pakistan.
