When Wallace asked what the United States will do if Russia defends its interests in Syria, mentioning Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev’s comments Friday that the USA missile strike in Syria put the two countries “on the verge of a military clash”, McMaster stood firm on his position that Russia is “part of the problem” and should become “part of the solution”.
US President Donald Trump said that the attack was a response to the alleged chemical weapon use in Syria’s Idlib province on Tuesday, which resulted in the death of over 80 people.
Tillerson stopped short of accusing the Russians of complicity. “But clearly they’ve been incompetent and perhaps they’ve just simply been outmaneuvered by the Syrians”, he said on ABC’s “This Week”.
“If this intervention is limited only to an air base, if it does not continue and if we don’t remove the regime from heading Syria, then this would remain a cosmetic intervention”, said Cavusoglu. “And we’re not going to allow things like this to happen to innocent people”.
Thursday’s strike “was related exclusively to the most recent horrific use of chemical weapons”, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos on Sunday.
Syria’s ally Russian Federation says the deaths were caused when a Syrian air strike hit a depot where rebels were making chemical weapons, leading to a leak of toxic gas.
Senator John Cornyn of Texas, the number two Republican in the US Senate, praised Mr Trump’s initial missile strike for sending a message to Mr Assad, Russia, Iran and North Korea that “there’s a new administration in charge”. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on NBC’s “Meet the Press”.
WALLACE: Let me bring in – you mentioned Russian Federation.
WALLACE: So, there is a possibility that President Trump, you are saying – leaving it wide open that he will act against President Assad if he goes against civilians no matter what weapon he uses?
Defeating the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group, pushing Iranian influence out of Syria, and the removal of Assad are priorities for the USA administration, Nikki Haley said in an interview to CNN, which will air in full on Sunday.
“We will be discussing the possibility of further sanctions certainly on some of the Syrian military figures and indeed on some of the Russian military figures who have been involved in co-ordinating the Syrian military efforts and are thereby contaminated by the appalling behaviour of the Assad regime”, Mr Johnson told reporters.
“In no way do we look at peace happening in that area with Iranian influence”.
He wrote: “But Assad’s principal backer is Russian Federation”.
“It is important that the United Nations and experts from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) gain immediate access and can carry out their investigation without hindrance”, Gabriel told the German newspaper “Bild am Sonntag”.
Other than that, he added, “there is no change to our military posture” towards Syria.
“Any time you go in and have a violent change at the top, it is very hard to create the conditions for stability, longer-term”, he said.

At the end of last month, Haley told reporters that the US priority in Syria “is no longer to sit there and focus on getting Assad out”. “And Russia was never part of the targeting”. ” “I think he’s making a serious mistake”.
