Russia criticizes US over bombing of Syrian army near Deir al-Zor
For its part, the Syrian Army said that its soldiers had been preparing to attack an Islamic State position when they were fired on by USA forces.

Two aid convoys destined for Aleppo were still stuck on the Turkish border after several days while the sides argued over how the supplies were to be delivered.
“The secretary made clear that the U.S. will not establish the joint implementation centre with Russian Federation unless and until the agreed terms for humanitarian access are met”, said John Kirby, a USA state department spokesman.
The United States and Russian Federation agreed a deal on Syria last week, involving a ceasefire which came into effect on Monday, aid deliveries to besieged areas and eventual joint targeting of militant jihadist groups if the truce works out.
The truce was billed as the “last chance” to end the five-year war but it has been marred by a lack of aid deliveries, sporadic violence and friction between Russian Federation and the United States, which brokered the deal.
Russia said it wants an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss air strikes, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.
Moscow said Friday that it was ready to prolong the truce by 72 hours, but there has been no formal announcement of an extension.
“It is my understanding that United Nations officials are waiting for assurances that conditions are safe enough for two convoys of 20 trucks each to proceed from Turkey to eastern Aleppo”, Jens Laerke told a press conference in Geneva.
Russian Federation on Friday accused the United States of refusing to share documents with the UN Security Council outlining a joint agreement aimed at halting the fighting in Syria.
The conflict centers on a road-the main route for aid into Eastern Aleppo. The accord calls for a nationwide truce, but that excludes attacks on the Islamic State and a former al-Qaida affiliate, Jabhat Fatah al-Sham.
There are reports that hundreds of protesters from villages in government-held territory moved to block the Castello Road; their aim was said to be to prevent aid reaching rebel-held areas in eastern Aleppo until there are guarantees that goods will also reach government-controlled communities.
“We believe the Security Council can play an important role in the resolution of the crisis in Syria”, the United States spokesman said.
Warplanes strafed or bombed opposition-held areas in Maarat al-Numan, Saraqeb and Khan Sheikhoun in Idlib, Teir Maalah, north of Homs, and Souha, east of Hama, overnight after other strikes earlier on Friday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Central Command said Syria is a complex situation, with a variety of military forces and militias in close proximity, and that coalition forces would not intentionally strike a known Syrian military unit.
