Russia declares 3-hour daily ceasefire in Aleppo
A witness in Aleppo near the frontline between the opposition-held eastern sector and the government-held west of the city also reported hearing continued fighting after 10.30 a.m.

A United Nations official, meanwhile, said a break in fighting for at least 48 hours was needed to get sufficient aid into the city.
Fighting persisted in the Syrian city of Aleppo on Thursday more than an hour into a three-hour ceasefire announced by Russian Federation, two rebel groups and a witness in the city said, as government forces tried to reverse last week’s opposition gains.
“Regarding the Russian Federation announcement…”
The United Nations, which has earlier called for 48-hour weekly pauses for the aid deliveries, said the three-hour truce announced by Russian Federation would not be enough to meet the needs of civilians in the war-battered Syrian city.
Last month government forces captured the last remaining rebel supply route into the east, known as Castello Road, raising fears that some 250,000 to 300,000 civilians there would come under siege.
It has demanded 48-hour weekly pauses for aid deliveries as intense fighting continues between rebels and Syrian government forces.
On Monday, President Bashar al-Assad sent thousands of reinforcements to mount a counterattack in Aleppo after rebels broke through government lines two days earlier.
He said that more than 1,000 rebels had been killed and about 2,000 wounded in recent fighting over the past four days south-west of Aleppo.
“We support the proposals by the United Nations to establish joint control over the delivery of humanitarian aid to the population of Aleppo along the Castello road”, he said.
“To meet that capacity of need, you need two lanes and you need to have about 48 hours to get sufficient trucks in”, Stephen O’Brien, UN under-secretary general for humanitarian affairs, told reporters.
“When we’re offered three hours then you have to ask what could be achieved in that three hours – is it to meet the need, or would it only just meet a very small part of the need?” Rudskoi said a point for collecting aid and forming convoys had been created near Handarat, on the northern outskirts of the city.

Two weeks ago Russian Federation and the Syrian government declared a joint humanitarian operation for the besieged area, showering it with leaflets telling fighters to surrender and civilians to leave through a number of “humanitarian corridors” it had set up. He said the militants had tanks, artillery and combat vehicles with weapons mounted on them.
