Iraqi and Syrian Kurds, meanwhile, have accused Ankara of repeatedly bombing them in recent months, amidst their campaigns to defend against assaults from Daesh (ISIL/ISIS).

Moscow has stated that Ankara is the main procurer of illegal oil from Syria and Iraq, accusing Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his family of direct involvement in the oil business of the terrorist group, outlawed in Russian Federation. It would be keenly aware of the sensitivity of Ankara to any contacts between Moscow and Kurdish politicians.
“This confirms the fact that all information, which we transfer to the American side within the framework of the memorandum, has surely been handed over by the U.S. Air Force command to Turkey’s General Staff”, Konashenkov was quoted as saying by local Russian media.
Prior to his Moscow visit, Demirtas announced his support for the idea of autonomy for the southeastern Anatolia region, where he said local people had “embraced autonomy” in opposition to “dictatorship” imposed from Ankara.
Russia, one of the world’s largest wheat exporters, and Turkey, one of the biggest buyers of Russian wheat, have been locked in a dispute since Turkey shot down a Russian warplane near the Syrian-Turkish border in late November.
An infuriated Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu charged that Demirtas’ statement in Moscow was “exactly scandalous and exactly treason”. “Supporting Russia while it kills civilians in Syria is treason not only against this country but also against humanity”, he added.

The ministry claimed that Turkey is smuggling militants to the northern part of Syria to reinforce the terrorist group. Russian tour operators were also told to stop selling vacations to Turkey. “I will apologize if they [the government] can state a single benefit for Turkey in the downing of the Russian jet”, he said later in the day as he spoke at a news conference in Istanbul upon his return from Russia.
