Russia’s Paralympians Could Face Ban From Rio
It said the decision would come at a press conference Sunday.

By the time of the Olympic opening ceremony, 271 Russian athletes had been granted approval to compete.
Reports the IPC has chose to ban all Russian athletes from the 2016 Paralympics have been branded as “pure speculation”.
The Russian paralympic team faces a blanket ban in competing in the Rio Games after a report revealed some of its athletes were implicated in a state-sponsored doping programme.
The IPC is set to announce the decision on Sunday, the Observer said, having obtained extra evidence from McLaren.
Following the report, WADA recommended the International Olympic Committee, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and all international sports federations to ban Russian athletes from all international sports competitions.
The IPA team stands in solidarity with the International Olympic Committee’s Refugee Olympic Team.
RIO DE JANEIRO-Even as Russian Olympians started competing on Saturday, the country was facing another reckoning in the aftermath of the doping scandal: Will Russia’s Paralympians be banned from Rio?
The IPC contacted McLaren for further information before making its decision.
“IPC has not announced any decision on the membership status of the Russian Paralympic Committee”.
More Russians could yet join the team, after sport’s top tribunal, the Court of Arbitration for Sport, ruled against the IOC’s recent ban on all Russian athletes who had previously served sanctions for doping. He said last month: “McLaren’s findings are of serious concern for everyone committed to clean and honest sport”. The additional information we have been provided with by Richard McLaren includes the names of the Para athletes associated with the 35 “disappearing positive samples” from the Moscow laboratory highlighted in the report.
