In his speech Saturday to an economic forum in Vladivostok a day after holding talks with Putin, Abe also proposed to the Russian president that the two of them should meet annually in the city to try to hammer out their differences.

Clinton described Putin’s response as a serious concern.

Putin said signing a peace treaty with Japan was a “key issue” and that Moscow “would very much like to find a solution to this problem with our Japanese friends”.

Lehrich was reacting to Putin’s remarks in a Bloomberg News interview in which he called the DNC breach and subsequent publishing of the documents a service to the public.

“It wasn’t us who supported the anti-constitutional coup in Ukraine”, Putin said, apparently referring to the USA endorsement of the 2014 revolution.

During her press availability with reporters, Clinton also took questions about the notes the Federal Bureau of Investigation released about her use of a personal email server during her time as secretary of state, the Clinton Foundation, trade and her health. “There are so many of them I have lost track of them”.

The news media, Clinton critics and others have argued that Clinton has not held a full-fledged press conference in roughly 275 days.

Speaking at the start of her discussion with the Russian leader in Hangzhou on Sunday, May said that although there were “differences” that concerned her regarding the policies of the two countries, she hoped they could be resolved through dialogue. She blamed seasonal allergies for a sustained coughing fit at an earlier event in Ohio.

Clinton, whose use of a private email account during her time as secretary of state has dogged her 2016 presidential campaign, said she understood and took classification seriously when she was President Barack Obama’s top diplomat.
