Russia shuts down Elton John
Lexus made his apology on Wednesday on air during a radio broadcast of the ‘Russian news service’.

If Putin did indeed reach out to Elton John, rather than to any of the many other Western celebrities who have decried Russia’s treatment of gays in the past few years, it wouldn’t be the strangest thing in the world.
Sir Elton John said this week on Instagram that he spoke with Russian president Vladimir Putin, but the Kremlin quickly said that it never happened.
During his interview, Sir Elton admitted he thought it was unlikely he would meet President Putin.
Some think John may have been prank called, but regardless, he has gone on record slamming Putin and Russia’s stance on gay rights. ‘I don’t know [what happened] but President Putin did not speak to Elton John and most importantly we didn’t receive any proposals to meet.
According to the Daily Mail, the “proof” of the prank brings to an end speculation that John’s initial Instagram post announcing the chat was wrong.
“It’s probably pie in the sky but unless you try, unless you put your foot in the water, your toe in the water…At least I can have a conscience and say I’d tried”.
I guess that’s why they call it the blues: Turns out it wasn’t Vladimir Putin on the line after all.
“He said: ‘Thank you, you’ve made my day”.
But the Kremlin firmly denied the president had contacted the singer and hinted the call could have been a hoax.
That said, while Putin doesn’t now have any plans for a meeting, his office indicated a willingness to be available if and when John offers a time and place.
Elton John is a staunch advocate for gay rights and just last month criticised a Venice mayor who has removed books from schools that feature same-sex families.
“I’d love to meet him”, the singer said. “Gay people are not the problem here”, the singer told BBC television.
Sir Elton has openly condemned Putin’s attitude to gay rights in Russian Federation.
