This left no viable “moderate” opposition to Assad – an assessment borne out by the ensuring years of embarrassing Administration failure to train up the white-hat Syrian force it claimed would be able to thump Assad, ISIS, and al-Qaeda.
Jobar, the closest battleground to Damascus, dubbed the “key to the city” by Islamist rebels has been reduced mostly to rubble, has been re-taken by the Syrian Army.
The resolution is a small step forward that at least requires parties to the conflict to come to the table and talk further, although it begs the question of exactly who should be there to represent the Syrian opposition.
At their NY meeting International Syria Support Group members confirmed an earlier adopted decision that the authorities and the opposition in Syria should, within six months, agree to form a national unity government.
State Department spokesman John Kirby pushed back Monday against the notion that the administration has quietly aligned itself with Moscow over Mr. Assad’s fate, asserting that Mr. Kerry’s posture on the issue has remained unchanged for more than a year.
A US-led worldwide coalition has been launching airstrikes against Daesh targets in Syria since September 2014, without the permission of Damascus or the United Nations.
As a result, according to IHS, the Syrian Armed Forces and part of the opposition fighting the terrorism forced the terrorists to give up some 12,800 square kilometers in the northern Syrian border with Turkey.
“Nothing will be imposed on the Syrian state or happen at its expense”, she added, stressing that “We are confident about the Russian-Syrian relationship and the kind of cooperation, understanding and communication between us”.
The report also suggests that the Russian authorities were attempting to cover up the mounting civilian death toll.

The talks were attended by representatives of Russian Federation, the US, the UN, France, Britain, Germany, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Iran, as well as the European Union, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
