Russian Bombers Hit Raqqa; Gas Attack Reported in Aleppo
The Syrian Civil Defense, a group of first responders, said it pulled 10 people alive from under the rubble.

Four people are said to have died, while many others suffered breathing difficulties.
Nadim Houry, deputy Middle East director at Human Rights Watch, said airstrikes on hospitals have become “routine” in Syria, despite United Nations resolutions calling for immediate actions to stop such attacks.
Government and opposition forces have both denied using chemical weapons during Syria’s conflict.
Despite calls for cease-fire and a promise from Russian Federation of a three-hour respite to allow in humanitarian aid, there has been no let up in the violence.
“The world has stood by and remarked how “complicated” Syria is, while doing little to protect us. Recent offers of evacuation from the regime and Russian Federation have sounded like thinly veiled threats to residents – flee now or face what fate?”
“There is a lot of evidence that it actually did take place”, he told reporters.
Beirut-UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said on Thursday that the global body is investigating if chlorine gas has been used in the divided city of Aleppo.
There has been an escalation in violence and Moscow’s announced a daily, three-hour pause.
The UN is now investigating the attack but doctors who examined the four people that lost their lives, said it was due to chlorine.
“They were all suffering from the same symptoms, mainly coughing and shortness of breath”. It did not mention chlorine, but said that several people were having trouble breathing after the bombing. “We commend the bravery of medical professionals across Syria who are working every day in perilous circumstances with minimal supplies to save lives”.
Doctors in Syria’s Aleppo made a heart-wrenching plea Thursday for the U.S. to help civilians in the city, hit by fresh fighting despite a promised Russian aid window. The government siege essentially cut some 250,000 people off from basic food, medicine and fuel supplies that keep ambulances and hospital generators running.
Longtime Syria ally Russian Federation has provided air cover for pro-government forces for almost a year, including in Aleppo.
The attack late Wednesday on the city’s eastern Zabadieh neighborhood saw at least four barrel bombs dropped on the area, one of which purportedly released the chlorine gas.
Two barrel bombs allegedly containing chlorine gas were dropped on 1 August in two residential neighbourhoods in the city of Saraqeb in Idleb province, reportedly injuring at least 28 civilians. If it is confirmed that bombs dropped yesterday contained chlorine it will underline the extent to which government forces – as well as other parties to the conflict – are continuing to flagrantly violate global humanitarian law with impunity.
Special correspondent Bulos reported from Aleppo. Medics have saved clothes of victims to prove that chemical weapons are being used. The use of prohibited weapons such as chemical weapons is a war crime under customary worldwide law.
People gather to buy fresh produce that was brought into rebel held areas of Aleppo by private traders from a newly opened corridor that linked besieged, opposition-held eastern Aleppo with western Syria that was captured recently by rebels.
Underscoring the importance of allowing access to safety, and respect for the civilian and humanitarian character of IDP settlements, UNHCR reiterated its call for ensuring the protection of civilians based on global humanitarian law, worldwide refugee law, and human rights law.
