The Turkish military attache in Moscow will now meet the Russian foreign ministry to discuss the matter, which occured at around 6am (GMT).
A Russian warship fired warning shots Sunday at a Turkish fishing boat in the Aegean sea as the Turkish vessel was headed into a collision path toward the destroyer, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement Sunday.
Russian Federation on Sunday warned Turkey to stop staging what it called provocations against its forces in or near Syria after one of its warships fired warning shots at a Turkish vessel in the Aegean to avoid a collision.
Russia’s Smetliviy patrol boat, which was anchored, issued visual warnings and tried without success to reach the Turkish ship by radio when it came within 1,000 meters, the Defense Ministry in Moscow said Sunday in a statement.
The Turkish fishing boat sharply changed its course and passed by about 540 meters away from the vessel after the warning, according to the report.
The incident occured on November 24 when Turkey said the Russian jet had violated its airspace – one pilot was killed, one other survived.
Russian Federation claims Turkey shot down its plane to protect what President Vladimir Putin has described as Turkish profiteering from the ISIS oil trade.
After the incident, Russian Federation established a sanctions package that included banning some Turkish food imports.
