“Two mortar rounds hit the Russian Embassy compound in Damascus”.
Russain embassy has been the target of rocket attacks before.
It was not immediately clear if there were any casualties.
Russia wants to “create conditions for a political compromise” in Syria, he told Russian state TV.
He said the rebels had thwarted an attack by pro-government forces on the town of al-Mansoura in the Plain, and that government forces had suffered losses.
The demonstrators had been waving Russian flags and holding up large photographs of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
A few held placards that read: “Thanks Russia” and “Syria and Russian Federation are together to fight terrorism”.
Russian Federation insists it is mainly targeting ISIL and other “terrorists”, but the multi-pronged ground-and-air offensive is being waged in areas controlled by U.S.-backed rebels as well as other insurgents including Nusra Front.
The rebels are hoping for more military support from Arab states, notably Saudi Arabia, which has warned Russian Federation that its intervention will escalate the war and inspire more foreign fighters to go to Syria to fight.
In a recorded voice message posted online, al-Jolani described recent Russian intervention in Syria as “evidence of Iran’s failure [in Syria] and [indicative of] the Syrian regime’s imminent collapse”.
“The Russian intervention came to declare a new eastern Crusader war after the western Crusader war failed in Syria”, al-Golani said, in an apparent reference to airstrikes by the U.S.-led coalition that began a year ago.
Jolani said he would pay “3 million euros ($3.4 million) for anyone who can kill Bashar al-Assad and end his story”, and two million euros ($2.2 million) for Hassan Nasrallah, leader of Lebanon’s Shiite Hezbollah movement and a key Assad ally.
