Russian embassy in Damascus shelled during pro-government rally
The 50 tons of U.S.-supplied ammunition air-dropped to Syria’s moderate opposition by the Pentagon Tuesday morning will end up in the hands of the Islamic State group, claimed Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during a TV interview with NTV, a Russian news channel.

The airdrop is in line with a revamped US approach in Syria. That support could wane if Russian Federation were to emerge as the major force in stymying non-IS Sunni Muslim rebels in achieving their goals in Syria.
Saoud, the 13th Division commander whose fighters received TOW missiles, said he worked in the same trench with a faction from the Army of Conquest.
Spokesmen for the YPG did not return calls to the AP.
Detainees arrived in Russia prior to the advent of Russian forces beginning anti-ISIL airstrikes in Syria.
Also, China is warning that the USA and Russian Federation must be careful to avoid the Syrian conflict developing into a full-blown proxy war.
The weapons are delivered to the field by US allies, but the United States approves their destination.
Before the shelling, the demonstrators had gathered outside the embassy carrying posters showing Assad and Russian President Vladimir Putin, and waved the two countries’ flags.
The ministry said the strikes destroyed a command post outside the town of Anadan, located 16 kilometres (10 miles) northwest of Aleppo, which it said was used by IS fighters to coordinate their movements in the area.
Spirits are rising on the government side as well. “This new reality requires the region’s countries and the allies in specific to hasten in forming a regional alliance to face the Russian-Iranian alliance that occupies Syria”, the groups said in a statement that was referring to Turkey and Saudi Arabia. “We’re at a critical phase”, for a political resolution of the crisis, though more and more preconditions are being placed in the way, he said.
The Russian embassy has been the target of rocket attacks before.
“We can get as much as we need and whenever we need them”, he said, asking not to be identified to avoid reprisals from rival Islamist insurgents he has criticized.
“Syria will witness big victories in coming days”, said Gen. Mohammad Ali Jafari, chief of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, speaking Monday at Hamedani’s funeral.
President Barack Obama has not spoken about the Central Intelligence Agency program publicly, but he has said that Russian Federation risks slipping into a quagmire in Syria and is operating from a position of weakness.
Rebels in the capital’s suburbs have targeted the embassy in the past, and it was not clear if today’s attack targeted the rally.
