Russian swimmer Yulia Efimova joyfully announced on Friday that she’s been cleared to compete in the Rio Olympics after a convoluted drugs case that highlighted the confusion sparked by the Russian doping scandal.

Their comments were covered widely by Russian state television and stirred outrage among Ukrainians who view Moscow as their existential foe.

Zhukov said it was “unfair” that athletes from other countries who have previously served drugs bans, such as American sprinter Justin Gatlin, will compete in Rio.

“The specific team member has now left the Olympic Village”.

Her argument echoed remarks made by some senior Russian officials on Thursday. International Olympic Committee will also make contributions to this review by suggesting measures for more transparency, clearer responsibilities, better supervision procedures and more independence.

“AIBA has carried out an individual analysis of the anti-doping record of each of the 11 Russian boxers qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games”.

Bach also defended the IOC’s decision not to take the “nuclear option” of issuing a blanket ban on Russian athletes at the Games, stating that would be unfair to clean athletes within the country.

With this, CAS has overruled one of the IOC’s criteria set to determine which Russian athletes will be allowed to participate in Rio.

On the eve of the opening ceremony, Bach – whose links to Vladimir Putin have come under scrutiny – insisted he was comfortable with the stance the International Olympic Committee had taken.

Those advocating a total ban on Russia’s participation in the Games are discouraged by the verdict, which many consider a feckless International Olympic Committee response to a cheating scam coordinated through Moscow.

Martasidis, who was to compete in the 85kg category, had arrived in Rio hours earlier only to be informed of a positive test from an out-of-competition doping control, his team said. The U.S. team is the largest with 556 athletes.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) outlawed that ruling on Thursday, potentially reopening a way in for her to compete.

“We wanted to follow the rules of justice, independent from politics. And I dont even want to talk about the legal framework: the athletes were tried in absence of a court, proof or ability to defend themselves”, Popovich concluded.
