Turkish forces and the Ankara-backed rebels are pressing on with the operation inside Syria, which is also targeting a Kurdish militia Ankara regards as a terror group.

“Obama wants to do some things jointly concerning Raqqa”, Mr Erdogan said.
“Having kicked ISIS out of Jarabulus, our next goal is to help bring life back to normal in the area”, a Turkish official said.
The military campaign has freed Aleppo from the clutches of Daesh and is believed to have resulted in the seizure of a 56-mile corridor near the Turkish border within Syria, between the cities of Azaz and Jerabulus.
Turkey has insisted that the Kurdish fighters pull back east of the Euphrates river following the operation, and warned that they will be legitimate targets for Turkish forces and the Syrian rebels Turkey backs if they fail to do so.
Erdogan said the original residents of Jarabulus and al-Rai have already begun to return from Turkey.
The operation, launched on August 24, came after a string of bloody suicide bombings and rocket attacks inside Turkey blamed on IS.
Russia, which is allied to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, said it was “deeply concerned” by the Turkish advance.
Earlier, Nuh Kocaaslan, the mayor of Karkamış, the Turkish town across the border from Jarablus, said 20,000 people had returned to the Syrian city since it was cleared of terrorists.
On Aug. 27, one Tourkish soldier was killed and three others injured when the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) attacked their tanks.
It said a 2km stretch of the cable would be on Syrian territory and the rest in Turkey.
“Turkey has supported us in every way until now, and has now saved our homeland”, said Fatima Mahmud, a mother who was among the group, told the Turkish newspaper Milliyet.
Erdogan said that after the G20 he was optimistic of the chances of a ceasefire between opposition forces and Assad’s regime, in time for the Eid al-Adha Muslim holiday, which gets under way next week.

“Our soldiers should come together and discuss, then we will do what is necessary”, Erdogan reportedly told Obama on Tuesday.
