“In connection with the incident in the Aegean Sea, Russian Deputy Defence Minister Anatoly Antonov invited the military attaché at the Turkish embassy in Russia to the Russian Defence Ministry”, also added in the explanation. When the vessel didn’t respond and closed to within 600 meters, the Russian warship fired, prompting the Turkish boat to change course, the ministry said.

The incident comes as relations between the two countries have become increasingly strained since Turkey shot down a Russian fighter plane near its border with Syria. Russian Federation denied the claims of airspace violation and said the jet was in Syrian airspace the entire time.
