Russian Federation will begin building two nuclear power plant units in Iran next week, Mehr news agency quoted an Iranian nuclear official as saying, under a deal signed in Moscow a year ago between subsidiaries of the two countries’ state atomic agencies.
A series of agreements signed between the two countries previous year foresees eventually increasing the total number of Russian-built reactors in Iran to nine. Russian Helicopters Deputy CEO Alexander Shcherbinin says Iran’s economy has improved, and the upcoming lifting of global economic sanctions can accelerate its development.
He argued Iran’s nuclear expansion will still result in Tehran’s compliance under the nuclear deal signed with world powers.
“Given the existing highways infrastructure in the regions, demand for helicopters among various agencies, and Iran’s potential, cooperation on the delivery of Russian-made helicopters is sure to expand”, Shcherbinin said in a statement.
Behrouz Kamalvandi, deputy head of the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran, said work on the two reactors “will commence next week”, according to the state television website.
Putin said that Russian Federation was ready to allocate a $5 bln public export credit to finance joint projects. The committee participants stressed the importance of regular sharing of experience across the whole value chain and discussed the possibility of training Iranian specialists in Russian Federation in industry-specific oil and gas professions. Rostec owns 700 enterprises, organized into 14 holding companies, nine of which are focused on the military.
