Russian Federation tourist suffers acid attack in India’s Varanasi

The man threw acid at her while the woman was sleeping on the terrace. Siddharth Srivastava, who had fled to Allahabad after committing the crime, was nabbed yesterday when he came back to visit the 23-year-old victim in the hospital here, Varanasi SSP, Akash Kulhary said. Identified as Siddharth, police said he fell in love with the Russian woman, which was not reciprocated.
ADG (Law and order) Dalijit Chaudhary said in Lucknow that a case has been registered and strict action will be taken in the matter. She was attacked by acid by the son of the landlord.
The attack is the latest in a series reported by foreign women visiting India.
In September, an American traveler had blamed two men for raping her in the well hill station of Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh.

The Supreme Court has repeatedly warned state authorities to enforce restrictions on the sale of acid, but it is still easily available.
