Russian Federation wants ‘proportionate response’ to North Korea nuclear test

The statement said the test was a “perfect success”, and the announcement was celebrated on the streets of Pyongyang, where a large crowd gathered in front of the city’s main train station to watch the test announcement on a big video screen.

The U.N. Security Council is planning to hold an emergency meeting on Wednesday to discuss North Korea’s reported test of a hydrogen bomb, the USA mission to the United Nations said.

China, a close ally of North Korea, earlier said it “firmly opposed” the nuclear test, and chided Pyongyang for having gone through with it “irrespective of the worldwide community’s opposition”.

World stock markets mostly slumped Wednesday after a North Korean nuclear test unnerved investors and a report showing weakness in China’s service industries renewed worries about growth in the world’s No. 2 economy.

In Pyongyang, meanwhile, the announcement was greeted with an expected rush of nationalistic pride, and some bewilderment.

The price of wholesale gasoline sank 6.6 percent after the USA government said inventories of gas climbed by 10.6 million barrels last week, and the price of heating oil tumbled 3.6 percent.

“We have been continuously warning that (North Korea) will pay a price for conducting a nuclear test”.

He calls on North Korea to abide by its global obligations and commitments and said the US consistently made clear that it will not accept North Korea as a nuclear state and will continue to defend USA allies in the region.

The location on the map places the epicenter at North Korea’s Pyunggye-ri testing site in its northeastern mountains, where all of its nuclear tests have been conducted.

North Korea said that it had successfully conducted a test of a miniaturized hydrogen nuclear device early Wednesday morning.

What better to do that with than another much smaller nuclear weapon. However there is some evidence a test of some weapon happened. Japanese media said Tokyo has also mobilized its own reconnaissance aircraft for sorties over the Sea of Japan to try to collect atmospheric data.

According to him, that’s smaller than the estimated explosive yield of 7.9 kilotons and a quake with a magnitude of 4.9 that were reported after the 2013 nuclear test, and only a fraction of a typical successful hydrogen bomb test’s explosive yield of hundreds of kilotons.

Just how big a threat North Korea’s nuclear program now poses is something of a mystery. North Korea is thought to have a handful of rudimentary nuclear bombs and has spent decades trying to ideal a multistage, long-range missile to eventually carry smaller versions of those bombs. North Korea has likely already achieved warhead miniaturization, the ability to place nuclear weapons on its medium-range missiles, and a preliminary ability to reach the continental United States with a missile. The Cuban missile crisis in the 1960s is just one example.

The North’s previous miniaturization claims have not been independently verified. The meeting was requested by the United States and Japan. “It’s also a direct challenge to world peace and stability”.

North Korea needs nuclear tests for practical military and political reasons. North Korea is yet another Hillary Clinton foreign policy failure.

South Korea’s Defense Ministry also says it is bolstering security and monitoring on North Korea.
