Russian field and track athletes barred from 2016 Rio Games — CAS
“I can’t find the words”.

The Olympics are scheduled to begin on August 5.
Usually so confident on the track, Bolt was initially wary about discussing the “sideshows” of Olympic bans but the Jamaican sprinter found his stride at a news conference in London.
They are three of the most experienced judges on the court’s list of around 400 approved arbitrators.
Mutko, 57, is a member of the FIFA Council, formerly its executive committee, president of the Russian football federation and head of the 2018 World Cup organizing committee.
The IPC’s board is meeting tomorrow and is understood to be less reluctant than the International Olympic Committee to consider such a radical and unprecedented step as throwing an entire country out for doping. “We are talking about athletes who have nothing to do with doping”. The IOC will take that ruling into account before making its own decision.
“Today’s judgement has created a level playing field for athletes”.
“In view of the urgency of the matter”, the court issued only its decision on Thursday, noting that the panel’s judgment was unanimous. US-based long jumper Darya Klishina has since been cleared to compete in Rio however.
CAS said the rule, adopted on June 17, “left practically no possibility for the athletes to comply with the criteria”.
She told the Tass news agency: “Thank you all for this funeral for athletics”.
“The decision is terrible and it once again shows how politicized the whole system is”.
“The fact that the new findings are saying that (Russia’s) secret service are involved in this, it scares me”, she said.
It refused to lift the suspension last month, meaning no Russian athletes could take part in Rio.
But the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) has ruled it can stand.
Also, a sports official from China said the country is requiring signed pledges not to cheat, including with doping, according to Associated Press. “Not just ours, but all of them”, Litvinov said. It has a total of 387 athletes in its delegation, and 68 are in various track and field events.
The IOC says incidents will be handled by “a confidential procedure linked to local law enforcement agencies and relevant disciplinary channels”.
IAAF President Sebastian Coe said it was “not a day for triumphant statements”.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport will issue its verdict Thursday, July 21, 2016 on Russia’s appeal to overturn the IAAF ban on its track and field athletes for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
“The Olympic Committee and the worldwide federations of different sports includes not only those countries which initiated it, but other countries as well”.
Four-time Olympic rowing champion Sir Matthew Pinsent said the decision should give the IOC and sports federations “firm legal ground” to act.
Had the IAAF ban been thrown out by CAS and the Russian track athletes let back in, that would seemingly have ruled out the International Olympic Committee imposing a blanket ban.
The IAAF has hailed the ruling to bar Russian field and track athletes from the Rio Olympics.

An appeals court is set to rule on the ban imposed on Russia’s track and field athletes for next month’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
