Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that Moscow’s “stance on the step that was taken by the Turkish government in no way applies to the Turkish people”. “We helped our [Kurdish] brothers in Kobani [Syria], our same duty is to protect Turkmens in Bayir-Bucak”.
Selahattin Demirtas, co-leader of Turkey’s pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP), poses during an interview with AFP in Brussels on August 6, 2015.
“We are aware that Iraqi and Syrian Kurds are withstanding, with arms in their hands, the threats from the Islamic State and other extremist groups”.
“We criticized the actions of the government when the Russian plane was shot down”, Russian news agencies quoted Demirtaş as telling Lavrov.Lavrov told Demirtaş that Russia would “take into account” his party’s “assessments” regarding the situation in Syria, noting that Moscow was ready to cooperate closely with ethnic Kurds fighting against Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants, according to Reuters.
Lavrov further said Russian Federation was ready to support anyone that is fighting against terror as part of their counter-terrorism operation with the Syrian administration.
Referring to the high profile trip by the first Turkish figure since the fighter jet downing on November 24, Davutoglu said at a Tuesday meeting in the parliament, “Why didn’t they (the HDP) go two months ago?
Demirtas saying in Moscow that Turkey’s downing of Russian jet was wrong is a total disgrace and treason”, Davutoglu told a meeting of businessmen in Ankara. Erdogan has accused the HDP of connections with armed Kurdish rebels fighting in Turkey’s south-east.

Following the November 24 incident, Moscow imposed a number of punitive measures against Ankara, including import restriction on Turkish foods, a ban on tourist travel to Turkey, an embargo on hiring Turkish citizens in Russian Federation and a ban on Turkish organizations’ activities in Russian Federation.
